Underfloor heating can be used with most types of floor construction and can also be used in conjunction with radiators by correctly designing the system and using the correct controls to achieve optimum output and efficiency - helping to reduce fuel bills. We are also able to use an overlay system to provide underfloor heating on top of existing floors surfaces without the need to 'dig out' an existing floor area. We have successfully installed underfloor using the overlay system onto an existing concrete floor marrying it up to an adjoining dropped step floor where the floor level has been raised to the same level using insulation. Whatever the situation or problem you might envisage there are sure to be ways around it.

With regard to controls we will ensure that the system is controlled in such a way to allow you to choose when you want your heating on, off or even at a reduced temperature setting, very similar to the way 'traditional' heating systems are controlled. We can even design your system to allow for individual rooms to be seperately controlled, similar to using thermostatic radiator valves on radiators.

What is Underfloor Heating?

Underfloor heating is a 'hidden' and silent method of improving our level of thermal comfort. Thermal comfort can be described as the point at which the human body feels at ease and comfortable with the surrounding environment.

Low temperature water circulates through a series of continuous pipe loops laid under the floor, turning it into one large radiant surface. The pipe loops for each room (or zone) all run from and back to the system manifold, which is conveniently located in one easily accessible position.

With underfloor radiant heating the feeling of thermal comfort can be increased, as the temperature is stable, evenly distributed and there is no draught. As well as benefiting from increased comfort and reduced running costs, installing an underfloor heating solution adds to the safety, attractiveness and value of your home.

Underfloor 'v' Radiators

Underfloor heating provides the warmth to a room from the floor up, rather than heating the ceiling space first. It also uses lower temperature water around 45°C because the larger heating surface does not need to emit as much heat per square metre as a radiator. This means the boiler consumes less fuel, which in turn means lower running costs, higher efficiency and less environmental damage. In fact you could see a 15-40% reduction in running costs!

Unlike radiators there are no high temperature surfaces or sharp edges which can cause injury. Furniture can be installed anywhere in the room without the restrictions imposed by radiator positioning.

The low floor surface temperature (around 27°C) results in an extremely comfortable, luxurious environment that is completely safe.The heat produced by under floor heating systems is different from radiators too. Under floor heating emits a far greater proportion of its heat as radiant rather than convected heat. For the same comfort level the room air temperature can be 2°C lower because radiant heat warms the surfaces rather than the air around the surfaces. This means you feel more comfortable. The lower temperature means less fuel is consumed, and the system is more economical, saving more money every year.

Underfloor heating is generally more expensive to install than radiators. However, due to lower running costs, higher comfort and the added value it gives to your home, the initial expense is more than justified.

Low-temperature system: It is possible to use different heat sources – the water in the pipes can be heated by using oil boilers, gas boilers, ground source heat pumps and more.
